The current schedule of events for the 2020 Queensland pipe band season is now officially cancelled.
Pipe Bands Queensland’s committee has been working closely with event organisers, local councils, and organising bands to discuss potential options for postponed events this year, noting that any dates are dependent on whether Federal Government enforcements remain in place or change in the future.
We will continue to update the community with any changes, but propose the following postponed dates for competitions to give our members something to work towards for the end of 2020:
- South Brisbane: Sunday 13 September
- Brisbane Boys’ College Highland Gathering: Saturday 19 September (now the Queensland Pipe Band Championships)
- Sunshine Coast Highland Gathering (Yandina): Sunday 27 September
- Canberra Highland Gathering: Sunday 10 October
- Australian Pipe Band Championships: 24-25 October.
An announcement was issued earlier this afternoon about the postponement/cancellation of The Gathering 2020; however, in place of this larger gathering, City of Ipswich Pipe Band may run a no-frills contest in September – more info to come on this when it is available.
If it goes ahead, the Brisbane Boys’ College Highland Gathering on 19 September will be the event host for the Queensland Pipe Band Championships for 2020.
We hope that all players and members of the pipe band community are staying well and carefully following the latest official advice during this unprecedented public health crisis.
