Pipe Bands Australia are championing a musical tribute on 15 August 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Known as ‘VP75 – Our Piping Tribute’, the project requires players to register; learn a tune called ‘VP 75 – Lest We Forget’, which has been composed by Mark Saul specifically for the occasion (pipe and drum scores available); and perform it at 9.30am on 15 August 2020.
All players who register and participate will be sent a printed certificate of appreciation to note their participation.
The tribute has received federal government support, with a $2000 grant under the Saluting Their Service program.
“Australian service men and women in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations for over a century have played a role in shaping the nation. These commemorations, projects and activities ensure their story is captured for generations to come,” said Darren Chester, federal Minister for Veterans’ Affairs.
“These grants will help community groups and organisations continue their important work in commemorating our service personnel and support those projects and activities which promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service.”
The federal government has advised PBA:
“Your organisation has a proud history of support with commemorative performances and I particularly want to commend Pipe Bands Australia on your actions to support this year’s ANZAC Day commemorations under such usual and somewhat challenging circumstances.
“The 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War is an opportunity to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of all Australians involved in that conflict through nationally significant commemorations.
“The contribution of Pipe Bands Australia, notably through Mark Saul’s composition of the tune ‘VP Day 75 – Lest We Forget’ is a touching tribute to our veterans. I thank you for your ongoing support to ensure their powerful legacy is remembered for generations to come.”
Visit the PBA VP75 site to register and access a recording – music will be emailed directly to you after registering.
