  • Looking to host a workshop or attract a world-class tutor for your band? Pipe Bands Queensland can help you source a range of grants and support.

Many bands support themselves through paid performances, hands-on fundraising, and/or affiliations with local associations and institutions.

However, several grant and funding streams that you may not have considered could help you pay for an upcoming workshop, event, equipment purchase or other development opportunity.

Some possible programs are listed below for you to investigate as they are relevant to you – click the titles to view the criteria and deadlines.

Please contact Pipe Bands Queensland for advice on these grant programs, or for any letters of support.

    Gambling Community Benefit Fund

Not-for-profit groups operating in Queensland can apply for grants from $500 to $35,000 through the GCBF. This fund is Queensland’s largest one-off community grants program, distributing approximately $57 million per year.

The fund allocates grants to not-for-profit community groups, to enhance their capacity to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities for Queensland communities.

    Regional Arts Development Fund

Individual Regional Arts Development Funds (RADFs) are ideal for regional workshops or community engagement activities.

They are available for individual councils, and will typically provide individual development funding of up to $750 and group developing funding of up to $10,000. Typically, co-funding of at least 20 per cent is required.

RADFs support arts and cultural activities that:

    • provide public value for Queensland communities

    • build local cultural capacity, cultural innovation and community well-being

    • deliver the Queensland Government’s objectives for the community.

We suggest speaking directly to the council officer in charge of your council’s program before lodging.

These kinds of applications usually require 3–4 months application lead time, although some councils use specific closing dates.

    The Lord Mayor’s Community Fund

The Lord Mayor’s Community Fund offers funding of between $250 and $10,000.

This fund is applied from the council ward in which your band is registered or active.

Events (i.e. workshops) or equipment are eligible.

    Creative Sparks Program

This program offers grants of up to $10,000. Must be incorporated in a Brisbane local government area. Great for larger community-based projects, such as workshops or concerts.

    The grant program aims to:

    • support practitioners and producers to develop products, partnerships and new work that grow Brisbane’s reputation as a creative city

    • ensure that Brisbane residents and visitors to the city have access to a diverse range of creative and cultural activities

    • provide cultural, social and economic outcomes that benefit and add value to Brisbane.

    Google G-Suite

Does your band pay for email functionality for your organisation? (i.e. secretary@yourband.com)

Google NFP provides their “G-Suite” for free to registered not-for-profits. This will give you unlimited email addressed under your domain, with webmaster control – all for free! You also get access to the rest of the G-Suite basic functionality, including 30GB of cloud storage per user, and the ability to retrieve user login when someone leaves your organisation.
